SkyTrain workers in Vancouver plan to strike from December 10-13; public transportation disruptions expected

CUPE 7000, the union representing SkyTrain workers in Vancouver, is organizing a strike from Tuesday, December 10, into Friday, December 13. The work stoppage will begin at 05:00 (local time) on Tuesday and end at 05:00 on Friday, completely shutting down the Expo and Millennium lines. TransLink, the SkyTrain operator, is warning commuters to expect significant disruptions during the strike, including increased demand on other lines and for buses. Officials also announced on Monday, December 9, that additional buses will not be added to alleviate pressure from the work stoppage. Negotiations between CUPE 7000 and the BC Rapid Transit Company (BCRTC) are ongoing as of Monday evening.
