Nigeria: Strike at Lagos Airport suspended October 11 /update 2

Labor unions representing workers at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (LOS) in Lagos have called off a strike after the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and airport security agencies brokered a deal on Thursday, October 11. Workers embarked on the strike on October 10 to denounce the dismissal of 24 employees who allegedly intended to join aviation unions. Normal service is expected to resume in all terminals.

Context

According to union officials, the deal reportedly allows for the reinstatement of the dismissed employees, the recognition of unions, and an interministerial committee to explore further private sector aviation unions. Airport workers previously blocked access to Terminal 2, forcing airport officials to transfer all passenger services to the General Aviation Terminal (GAT). Airlines affected by the strike included Arik Air, Medview Airline, Azman Air, Max Air, Dana Air, and Aero Contractors.
