Bahrain: Protest scheduled for October 2 /update 1

Protest scheduled for October 2; avoid all demonstrations

Warning

Event

A nationwide opposition protest has been called for by several Shi'a groups on Friday, October 2. The demonstrations will be held to express solidarity with Palestine and to oppose the Bahraini government's announcement of normalizing diplomatic relations with Israel. Likely locations for the demonstrations include Shi'a areas outside central Manama, such as Al-Aker, A'ali, Bani Jamra, Abu Saiba, Al-Dair, Al-Markh, Buri, Diraz, Sanabis, Karbabad, Karranah, Ma'ameerMalkiya, and Sitra. No official start times have been provided although demonstrations are expected to occur in the evenings.

A heightened security presence and transportation disruptions are expected near any demonstration site, and clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out.

Advice

Individuals in Bahrain are advised to monitor the situation, avoid all protests due to the risk of violence, and adhere to any instructions issued by the local authorities.
