Bangladesh: Telecommunication services suspended along border with India December 31

Telecommunication operators ordered to suspend services along border with India on December 31 due to security concerns

Authorities on Tuesday, December 31, ordered the shutdown of all telecommunication services along Bangladesh's border with India due to security concerns. The decision stems from concerns that Muslims may seek to flee from India to Bangladesh amid unrest over the controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB). Officials did not specify how long services would be shuttered for; an estimated 10 million people are expected to be impacted by the move.

Individuals in areas along the border with India should anticipate limited access to digital communications over the near term.
