US: Tropical Storm Lane to become hurricane August 16

Event

Tropical Storm Lane is forecast to become a hurricane on Thursday, August 16, and continue strengthening to a major hurricane (Category 3 or higher) on Saturday, August 18. As of 17:00 (local time), Wednesday, August 15, Lane is about 3288 km (2043 mi) from the coast of Hawai'i and moving west around 20 km/h (13 mph). The storm is expected to shift its course slightly northward and could affect Hawai'i beginning Monday, August 20. Lane is currently producing sustained winds of 85 km/h (50 mph) with gusts up to 101 km/h (63 mph) and is forecast to strengthen to a Category 3 with sustained winds of 195 km/h (121 mph) by Saturday.
