France: Deadly flooding in Aude (south) October 15 /update 1

Deadly flooding leaves five dead in Aude department as of October 15; further flooding and infrastructure damage expected

Significant flooding has been reported in the department of Aude (southern Occitanie region), which has left six dead as of Monday morning, October 15 (local time). Further flooding and infrastructure damage is expected as more rain is forecast for the region. A red alert has been issued for the department; schools have been closed and residents have been advised by local authorities to avoid travel in the area.

Lower orange alerts are also in effect in the nearby departments of Pyrénées-Orientales, Tarn-et-Garonne, Aveyron, Haute-Garonne, Tarn, and Hérault.

Transportation disruptions and power outages are likely in the region.

Individuals in affected regions are advised to keep abreast of weather alerts, confirm travel reservations, and adhere to any instructions issued by the local authorities. Remember that walking or driving through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
