Shutdown strike and associated protests scheduled in Rupandehi district October 5

A shutdown strike is scheduled to take place in Rupandehi (Province No.5) on October 5. The strike has been organized by the Nepal Congress Party and will be held over a proposal to declare Deukhuri (Dang District) as the provincial capital instead of Butwal city (Rupandehi). Additionally, participants of the strike also plan to hold a demonstration outside the temporary provincial assembly office at the Butwal Chamber of Commerce and Industries.

Nonessential gatherings have been banned in Butwal city through October 7, however, protests scheduled to continue.

Heightened security presence and localized travel disruptions should be anticipated in the vicinity of the event.
