China: Parts of Pudong, Shanghai, remain designated as medium-risk for COVID-19 as of December 4 /update 2

Event

National authorities continue to designate parts of Pudong Area, Shanghai, as medium-risk locations for coronavirus disease (COVID-19) activity. As of early Dec. 4, the designation applies to two communities in Zhuqiao Township, one community in Zhoupu Township, and 126 Alley on Shunhe Road in Zhangjiang Township. Authorities in several other provinces and cities are requiring individuals traveling from affected communities in Pudong Area to undergo increased health screenings.

Localized movement restrictions remain in effect for residents of 126 Alley on Shunhe Road in Zhangjiang Township. Individuals are not allowed to leave their homes as authorities conduct mass COVID-19 screenings in the area. Strict movement controls that were previously imposed in other parts of Pudong Area have been lifted. However, further limitations may be imposed in affected communities, and possibly other parts of Pudong, at short notice if additional cases are discovered.

Follow all official instructions. Remain polite and nonconfrontational if questioned by security personnel. Confirm travel reservations in Shanghai's Pudong Area as a precaution. Avoid nonessential travel to designated medium-risk areas.

Emphasize basic health precautions, especially frequent handwashing with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are unavailable. Practice good coughing/sneezing etiquette (i.e., covering coughs and sneezes with a disposable tissue, maintaining distance from others, and washing hands). There is no evidence that the influenza vaccine, antibiotics, or antiviral medications will prevent this disease, highlighting the importance of diligent basic health precautions.
