Members of the National Union for Construction Workers (Sindicato Unico Nacional de Trabajadores de la Construccion y Similares, SUNTRACS) have been protesting on Via Centenario near the Centenario Bridge, which connects Panama City to La Chorrea, since early Dec. 22. The protest is to demand the reactivation of employment contracts and to denounce government legislation perceived to be harmful to workers.

Traffic disruptions are likely to persist on the affected parts of Via Cenenario and the bridge for the duration of the demonstration. While no violence has been reported as yet, low-level confrontations are possible if police attempt to disperse demonstrators who block traffic.
