Warning

Event

As of Jan. 20, authorities are requiring individuals traveling from Shenyang to provide negative coronavirus disease (COVID-19) test results before leaving the city. Tests must be taken no more than 72 hours prior to departure. The policy, originally introduced in early January in response to increased COVID-19 activity, has continued despite the easing of other localized restrictions. As of Jan. 20, no communities in Shenyang are officially designated medium- or high- risk areas for COVID-19.

Authorities will continue to conduct temperature scans and ensure people wear protective face coverings on public transport throughout Shenyang. Additional measures could be imposed in response to any confirmed COVID-19 activity in the coming days and weeks. Officials are requiring inbound travelers from other locations to comply with movement tracking protocols. Individuals with recent travel history abroad, or in any medium- or high-risk locations within China will be required to undergo quarantines.

Advice

Follow all official instructions. Remain polite and nonconfrontational if questioned by security personnel. Confirm travel reservations in Shenyang.

Emphasize basic health precautions, especially frequent handwashing with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are unavailable. Practice good coughing/sneezing etiquette (i.e., covering coughs and sneezes with a disposable tissue, maintaining distance from others, and washing hands). There is no evidence that the influenza vaccine, antibiotics, or antiviral medications will prevent this disease, highlighting the importance of diligent basic health precautions.
