Nigeria: Authorities impose indefinite nightly curfew in parts of Benue State effective Jan. 13

Authorities declare 2000-0600 nightly curfew in Ukum and Katsina-Ala areas of Benue, Nigeria, starting Jan. 13 in response to insecurity.

Warning

Event

Authorities have imposed a nightly 2000-0600 curfew in the Ukum and Katsina-Ala Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Benue State effective Jan. 13. The decision is reportedly part of the government's response to insecurity in the area stemming from banditry, kidnapping, and other forms of criminal activity. The curfew will be in place until further notice. The use of motorcycles has also been banned in the impacted areas.

Authorities will almost certainly deploy an increased security presence in the affected LGAs; localized transport and commercial disruptions are likely. Locals opposed to the measure may stage protests; police will likely move forcefully to disperse any such gatherings that may materialize.

Advice

Strictly comply with the curfew and heed other instructions from local authorities. Remain courteous and cooperative if stopped by security personnel. Avoid all demonstrations as a precaution. Confirm deliveries and plan for potential shipping delays. Consider alternative shipping methods for time-sensitive cargo.
