Authorities are responding to the discovery of an unexploded World War II-era bomb in Mantes-la-Jolie, Yvelines Department, the morning of Jan. 15. The bomb was discovered on a construction site on railway property and is currently being dismantled.

Police have set up a cordon of 300 meters (980 feet). Train services through the area, including routes connecting Paris with Normandy, are currently suspended. Approximately 500 people have been evacuated.

Authorities have not estimated how long the disposal operation will take; lingering rail disruptions are likely.

Avoid the affected area until authorities have given the all-clear. Check railway schedules on the affected routes before beginning journeys. Plan alternative routes if necessary and allow extra time for travel.
