A train traveling between Cairo and Alexandria derailed at the Tanta railway station in Gharbia Governorate, the evening of Jan. 16. Trains traveling along the Cairo-Alexandria railway line have been suspended until further notice following the incident. The cause of the derailment remains unclear; preliminary reports suggest only one or two cars may have jumped the track. There were no immediate reports of injuries.

Rail transport disruptions are likely along the Cairo-Alexandria until technicians are able to clear the affected train cars and repair any rails or other infrastructure that may have been damaged. Delays could extend through at least Jan. 17.

Reconfirm rail travel arrangements between Cario and Alexandria through at least Jan. 17. Plan accordingly for transport delays.
