A magnitude-5.4 offshore earthquake occurred near the Kamchatka Peninsula, Russia, at 1831. The epicenter was about 241 km (150 miles) east-northeast of Petropavlovsk, Russia. The tremor occurred at a depth of about 10 km (6 miles), and weak-to-light shaking was probably felt throughout southern parts of the Kamchatka Peninsula. Significant damage is unlikely in the impact area. Aftershocks are likely. The event has not prompted any tsunami advisories.
