Locals plan to rally at the Tarakan City Council and Juwata International Airport (TRK) in Tarakan, North Kalimantan Province, Jan. 19. The demonstrators are landowners demanding payment of levy for the land where the airport is situated. Dozens to hundreds of people may take part in the action.

Authorities will very likely heighten security at the protest sites. Flight cancelations are possible if the rally affects airport operations. Localized ground transport disruptions may occur, especially if demonstrators occupy nearby streets like Jalan Bandara Juwata, Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, and Jalan Mulawarman. Clashes between protesters and security personnel are possible. Mass arrests may occur if officials consider the gathering to violate coronavirus disease (COVID-19) restrictions.

Tarakan is around 310 km (193 miles) north of Tanjung Bara.
