DRC: Teachers to protest in Goma Jan. 20

Teachers plan to protest to demand the resumption of classes in Goma, DRC, Jan. 20. Increased security presence likely.

The Force Syndicale Nationale (FOSYNAT) has called on all teachers and civil society actors to protest in Goma Jan. 20 to demand the resumption of academic activity. Participants will gather at the ISC Goma school at 0900, before marching along the Goma-Sake Road towards the Government Hotel. Hundreds of people are likely to participate in the action.

An increased security presence is likely around the protest locations in Goma. Clashes are possible between protesters and security forces, especially if protesters refuse to disperse. Transport disruptions are also likely in the vicinity of all large gatherings.

Avoid all protests. Keep away from areas with a heavy security presence. Allow additional time to reach destinations in central Goma.
