Burkina Faso: Bodily remains of missing Catholic priest from Banfora recovered Jan. 21 /update 1

The body of a missing Catholic priest based in Banfora, Burkina Faso, was found Jan 21. The religious leader had been missing since Jan. 19. The disappearance prompted concerns that the priest was kidnapped by unknown criminal elements. Vatican officials previously confirmed the disappearance of the victim. Local security authorities have not yet confirmed if there is evidence of abduction and/or murder of the victim. Nevertheless, the disappearance underscores the insecurity and threat of militancy across much of Burkina Faso.
