An explosion has been reported near the Darul Aman Palace in Police District (PD) 6 in the southern outskirts of urban Kabul, the evening of Jan. 21. The explosion killed at least one person and wounded another. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the incident. The incident is apparently distinct from a suspected attack that occurred in the Kote Sangi area late Jan. 21.

Authorities will likely heighten security and close roads near the blast site in the coming hours. Localized transport disruptions are likely.
