Warning

Event

Activists affiliated with the All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU) plan to hold additional protests in areas of Arunachal Pradesh Jan. 28. Participants intend to condemn recent Chinese construction activity in a frontier area under Chinese control since 1959. Organizers plan to hold a rally at Indira Gandhi Park in the state capital, Itanagar, at 0930. Activists will also protest at district headquarters. The largest gatherings are likely in Itanagar and the Upper Subansiri District, which is located near the construction. The biggest rallies may attract several dozen to several hundred people.

Police will likely deploy near protest sites to monitor the event. Activists may march along nearby roadways, prompting localized ground transport disruptions. Although confrontations between police and protesters cannot be ruled out, major clashes are unlikely.

Advice

Avoid protest venues as a precaution. Allow additional time for ground transportation in nearby areas. If violence breaks out, leave the area immediately. Follow all security personnel instructions.
