Most international and domestic flights to and from Reykjavík's Keflavík Airport (KEF) in the morning (local time) on Thursday, January 23, were canceled due to heavy snowfall in the area. Some bus services have been canceled around the capital as of Thursday afternoon, and road closures are expected nationwide.

An orange weather alert will be in effect for the West Fjords until 15:00, when it will downgrade to a yellow alert through Thursday evening. Yellow weather alerts are in effect for most of the country through Thursday night.

Transportation disruptions, including further flight cancelations and delays, are possible over the near term.
