Somalia: Tropical Cyclone Gati to make landfall in Puntland November 22

Tropical cyclone Gati is approaching the northern parts of Somalia and is expected to make landfall along the Puntland coastline on Sunday evening, November 22. According to the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) at 0600 UTC, cyclone Gati was located approximately 380 km (235 miles) ESE of Bosaso and was recording maximum sustained winds of 185 kph (115 mph). The cyclone is expected to cause heavy rain and flooding across Somaliland and Puntland on November 22-23. The most potentially affected areas include the Mudug, Nugaal, Bari (Puntland), and Sanaag (Somaliland) regions, where damages to infrastructure are likely. The coast is of particular concern.

Disruptions to transportation and business are likely in the affected areas in the coming days and weeks.
