Kenya: Road closures in Nairobi on Wednesdays and Saturdays from Feb. 1

Road closures in Nairobi central business district from February 1; transportation disruptions likely

Warning

Event

Authorities on Monday, January 28, announced a car-free days policy to be implemented every Wednesday and Saturday in the central business district (CBD) of the capital Nairobi from Friday, February 1. As such, related temporary road closures are expected, notably on the Harambee Avenue, City Hall Way, part of Moi Avenue, Uhuru Highway, Haile Selassie Avenue, and University Way. The measure has reportedly been taken to allow for open-air markets and reduce the impact of pollution in the city. If the measure is implemented, significant transportation disruptions are to expected in the capital. Related protests to denounce the closures cannot be ruled out.

Advice

Individuals in Nairobi are advised to monitor developments to the situation, prepare for traffic disruptions, and adhere to any instructions issued by the local authorities.
