India: Passenger train derails in Odisha state January 16

A Mumbai-Bhubaneswar Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) Express train collided with a stationary train in Cuttack district (Odisha state) on the morning (local time) of Thursday, January 16. The incident occurred at around 07:00 between Salagaon and Nergundi stations. Multiple carriages derailed due to the collision, injuring between 20 to 40 people, according to local media reports. Buses were deployed to allow passengers to complete their journey while emergency crews are working to clear the track. At least five trains were diverted from the area due to the accident. Disruptions to East Coast Railway (ECoR) service are expected to continue over the coming hours.
