On the morning (local time) of Wednesday, April 1, at least eight civilians were killed and two others were wounded in a roadside mine blast in southern Helmand province. A spokesman for the provincial police chief stated that the incident took place in Nahr-e-Saraj district of the province after a vehicle struck a roadside mine.

Reports indicate that all victims were members of one family, including women and children.  No group immediately claimed responsibility for the incident.

Similar attacks are possible in the near term.
