At least 11 people were killed and four others were injured following a methane explosion at a coal mine in Pueblo Viejo, located in the Cucunubá municipality (Cundinamarca department), on Saturday afternoon (local time), April 4. Emergency operations are ongoing in the area as of Saturday evening. An investigation has been opened into the incident.

On Friday, April 3, six other miners were killed in a similar incident at a coal mine in the municipality of San Cayetano (Norte de Santander department).

A heightened security presence and transportation disruptions, such as road closures, are expected in the vicinity of the incident.
