Tropical Storm Ursula triggers domestic flight cancelations December 24; further transportation disruptions likely in the coming days

Tropical Storm Ursula (Phanfone), which is expected to make landfall in Eastern Visayas on Tuesday, December 24, has prompted the cancelations of 20 domestic flights operated by Philippines Airlines and Cebu Pacific Air in several airports nationwide on Tuesday.

As of 14:00 (local time) on Monday, December 23, Ursula was located at approximately 9.8°N 132.2°E (map here) and is moving northwest at 33 kph (20.5 mph), with maximum sustained winds of 74 kph (46 mph) and gusts of up to 93 kph (57.7 mph). According to PAGASA, Ursula is expected to intensify into a Severe Tropical Storm prior to make landfall on Tuesday afternoon.

Further transportation disruptions are likely in the coming days.
