Colombia: Nationwide strikes and demonstrations planned November 28

Students, teachers, and unions plan 24-hour nationwide strike and protests November 28; roadblocks and public demonstrations likely

University students are set to protest the education budget with large marches in Bogotá on Wednesday, November 28. Protest marches are set to begin at 07:00 (local time). Teachers will also join the demonstrations with a march beginning at Bolivar Square. Various unions, including the teachers' union, also announced their intention to support the student movement with a 24-hour strike on Wednesday. An estimated 350,000 teachers will participate. Bogotá will be the main focus of protests, though related demonstrations and service and transportation disruptions are likely across the country. Roadblocks and public transportation service disruptions are possible.
