Informational

Event

South Africa's Ministry of Public Enterprises issued a statement July 28 noting that operations at key Transnet-run ports had resumed or were resuming following a cyber-attack, July 22. The attack led the state-owned ports and freight rail company to adopt a manual system to process cargo containers leading to significant disruptions. Transnet also declared force majeure at several key container ports, including Durban, Ngqura, Port Elizabeth, and Cape Town, July 26. The force majeure is under review and will likely be lifted in the coming days.

Disruptions to the delivery of some goods are likely to persist across South Africa and some parts of Southern Africa in the coming days as officials clear the backlog of cargo.

Advice

Reconfirm the status of goods deliveries if moving freight through South African ports.
