Flooding triggered by heavy rain reported in Narathiwat December 2; situation to persist in the coming days

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) reported flooding following heavy rain in 11 of the 13 districts in the southern province of Narathiwat on Monday, December 2, affecting more than 30,000 people in 209 villages. Transportation disruptions, including inundated roads, have been reported.

The situation is expected to persist over the coming days. Rescue efforts are ongoing.

Advice

Individuals in areas forecast to be affected by the storm are advised to monitor local weather reports, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, anticipate adverse weather and power and transportation disruptions, and remember that running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) is enough to knock over an adult - and never drive through flooded streets; floodwater may also contain wastewater and chemical products.
