Civil society groups have called for a demonstration to be held in Niamey on Friday, January 17, in support of the Security and Defense Forces (FDS) and to denounce the foreign military presence in the country. Protesters are expected to gather at Place de la Concertation from 14:00 (local time) despite a ban on protest. 

A heightened security presence and localized transportation disruptions are expected near the protest site. Clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out.
