At least 33 people injured in train collision in Recife on February 18; associated transportation disruptions expected over the coming hours



At least 33 people were injured after two passenger trains collided in Recife (Pernambuco state) on Tuesday morning (local time), February 18. The incident occurred at Iparanga Station around 06:00 when one of the trains rear-ended another that had come to a complete stop. An investigation into the collision is underway, though a signal failure is believed to be the cause. 

Lingering delays and cancelations are to be expected across the rail network over the coming hours.
