DRC: Fatalities reported following clashes between Mayi-Mayi fighters and FARDC personnel in Beni (North Kivu province) November 24

Clashes between Mayi-Mayi fighters and FARDC personnel kill four in Beni territory (North Kivu) on November 24; further clashes are likely in the area

At least four militiamen were killed in clashes which erupted overnight on Tuesday, November 24, into Wednesday, November 25, between Mayi-Mayi fighters and Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) troops in Beni territory (North Kivu province). The security personnel were reportedly on patrol in the Mabasele district in the territory when the clashes occurred. Weapons and ammunition were recovered by the FARDC troops.

Further clashes in the area are possible in the near term.

The government's limited presence in the DRC's eastern provinces, as well as the presence of numerous armed groups and local self-defense militias, has led to continued insecurity in the area.

Those in North Kivu province are advised to remain vigilant for militant activity, monitor developments to the situation, and adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities and their home governments.
