Afghanistan: Dozens killed and wounded in attack on Ghazni security forces November 29 /update 1

Dozens killed and wounded in attack on Ghazni security forces in PD 3 November 29; avoid the area

At least 31 Afghan National Security Forces (ANSDF) were killed and more than 24 injured in a targeted attack by a vehicle-borne improvised device (VBIED) in the Ghazni Police District 3 (PD3) early on Sunday, November 29. The Afghan Interior Minister Tariq Arian confirmed the suicide incident following an announcement by a member of the Ghazni provincial council's confirmation of the death toll. Following the blast, militants engaged security forces with small arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades. No group has claimed immediate responsibility for the attack.

Clashes and security operations are expected in the area in the coming hours. Further militant attacks are likely in Ghazni and throughout Afghanistan in the medium term.

Those in Ghazni province are advised to avoid the affected area, remain vigilant for possible militant activity, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments.

The security environment in Afghanistan remains complex. Professional security advice and support should be sought prior to travel.
