General elections scheduled nationwide on November 11; disruption likely

Belize authorities announced that the general elections will be held nationwide on Wednesday, November 11. The election will be held to elect 31 members of the House of Representatives. Polling stations will be open throughout the country from 07:00 - 18:00 (local time). Additionally, authorities announced that a 20:00 - 05:00 curfew will be implemented from November 11- 12 as a precaution due to the potential of unrest, the curfew will apply to everyone with the exception of essential workers.

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) restrictions will remain in place on election day, including the mandatory wearing of face masks and social distancing measures. The ban on gatherings of more than ten people also remains in place.

Demonstrations may still occur despite the ban on gatherings ahead of and on the day of the election. Government buildings and polling stations are likely to be potential locations for demonstrations.
