Iran’s Red Crescent announced on the morning (local time) of Wednesday, January 8, that there is no chance of finding survivors after a Ukraine International Airline (UIA) flight leaving for Kyiv (Ukraine) crashed near Tehran. According to initial reports, the plane crashed near the Tehran suburb of Parand shortly after taking off from Imam Khomeini International Airport (IKA) at approximately 06:12 on Wednesday. Between 170 and 180 passengers and crew members were reportedly onboard the flight. An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing as of 08:40 and emergency personnel have deployed to the area. Details are still emerging.

A heightened emergency and security personnel presence is anticipated around the crash site over the coming hours.
