Bahrain: Anti-government demonstration on November 23-24 /update 3

Protests set to take place in Al-Ma’ameer (Central governorate) November 23-24 to denounce elections; associated disruptions expected

Protests are set to take place outside the Al-Damen mosque in Al-Ma'ameer (Central governorate) on Friday, November 23, and Saturday, November 24, to denounce parliamentary and municipal elections taking place November 24. Associated transportation disruptions are expected, along with possible unrest. Other protests have been organized in various Shi'a Muslim areas, mostly located in the Northern and Central governorates.

Further demonstrations are expected in urban areas throughout the country in the aftermath of the elections.

The Shi'a community in Bahrain accuses the Sunni government of marginalizing them. The Shi'a opposition party Al-Wefaq has called on supports to boycott the elections.

Individuals in Bahrain are advised to avoid all protests as a precaution.
