At least three Iranian border guards killed in clash with gunmen on Iran-Turkey border on November 13; avoid the area



Iranian state media has reported that three Iranian border guards were killed in a clash with unidentified gunmen on the Iran-Turkey border in West Azerbaijan province. The report stated that two further guards were injured in the clash, with the gunmen suffering heavy casualties. Reports from Kurdish news sources claim that the clash occurred in the vicinity of Silvana (Urmia county) and involved an unknown Kurdish opposition group.

Further clashes in West Azerbaijan province are likely over the near to medium term. A heightened security presence and associated disruption to transportation is likely in the vicinity of the Iranian border with Turkey and Iraq.  


Individuals present in the affected area are advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious objects or behavior to the relevant authorities.
