Israel/Palestinian Terr.: Shooting reported in Jerusalem February 6

Border police officer shot in Jerusalem on February 6; expect heightened security presence

A border police officer was shot in Jerusalem on Thursday, February 6, amid rising tensions in the country and territories. The incident took place near Temple Mount and Lion's Gate, where the shooter was killed by police forces. The incident comes several hours after another attack on police in which 14 soldiers were injured in Jerusalem.

A heightened security presence is to be expected throughout Israel, though especially in Jerusalem and in the West Bank.

Individuals in the West Bank are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid the area of the incident, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities and their home governments.

Some Western governments advise their citizens against all travel to the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, and areas near the Israeli-Lebanese, Israeli-Syrian, and Israeli-Egyptian borders.
