A public bus fell into a pit after a road collapsed in Xining City (Qinghai province) on the evening (local time) of Monday, January 13. The accident occurred at a bus stop on Nanjie Street in Chengzong district. At least 13 passengers were taken to the hospital for injuries and search and rescue operations continued into the night. Shortly after the accident, city officials cut water, gas, and electricity to the area as a precaution. According to local news reports, over 2850 customers were affected by the power outages. As of Monday night, electricity has been restored to at least 950 homes in the area. Disruptions to water, gas, and power supplies may continue through Tuesday, January 14.

The area of the accident has been cordoned off and localized traffic disruptions are anticipated over the coming days as recovery and repair operations continue.
