According to central trade unions, around 250 million people are expected to participate in a bharat bandh, or nationwide strike, on Wednesday, January 8, to protest government's failure to address their demands regarding unemployment, minimum wages, and social security, as well as perceived anti-labor policies.
At least 60 student unions, ten trade unions, and 175 agricultural unions announced they will participate in the strike.
Significant business disruptions are expected nationwide. Public demonstrations and associated transportation disruptions in cities are likely.
Individuals in India are advised to monitor the situation, avoid any large demonstrations as a precaution, and anticipate business and transportation disruptions.
