Brazil: Additional transport hike protest planned in São Paulo January 16 /update 2

The civil society group Passe Livre has called for a third protest in São Paulo on Thursday, January 16, in opposition to a transportation fare hike. The organization has called on government to completely eliminate transportation costs. Participants are scheduled to gather at the Municipal Theater at 17:00 (local time) and will begin a march at 18:00 towards an undisclosed location.

Associated transportation disruptions and a heightened security presence are to be expected in the vicinity of the protest. Skirmishes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out.
