Tunisia: Revolution anniversary protest scheduled in Tunis for January 14

Union schedules revolution anniversary protest in Tunis on January 14; heightened security presence expected

The General Tunisian Workers Union (UGTT) has called for a protest in Tunis on Tuesday, January 14, amid the ninth anniversary of the revolution that launched the so-called Arab Spring. Participants are expected to gather at Place Mohamed Ali as of 10:30 (local time). Gatherings and associated protests are likely in other urban centers across the country on the same date.

A heightened security presence and associated transportation disruptions are to be expected in the vicinity of all gatherings. Clashes between protesters and police cannot be ruled out

Individuals in Tunis and in Tunisia more generally are advised to monitor the situation, avoid any large demonstrations as a precaution, and anticipate business and transportation disruptions.
