Some 500 protesters have gathered in Kalkar (North Rhine-Westphalia state) on Saturday, November 28, to denounce the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party which is hosting a conference there. Demonstrators gathered in the vicinity of Kernwasserwunderland, where the conference is being held, amid a heightened police presence from 10:30 (local time). Reports indicate that the protests have remained peaceful.

The AfD conference is expected to continue into Sunday, November 29, and as such further unrest is possible.
