Warning

Event

On Sunday, January 25, the Tanzania's weather agency issued a weather alert warning about heavy rainfall that are forecasted to affect at least ten regions across the country, including the capital Dar Es Salam over the coming days. The Lindi, Mtwara, Ruvuma, and parts of Morogoro regions, along with the Coast, Tanga, Kigoma, Geita, Mwanza, and Kagera regions, and the islands of Mafia and Zanzibar are forecast to be affected.

According to the same source, infrastructure damage, along with related business and transportation disruptions, is possible in areas forecast to be affected by rain and flooding over the coming days.

Advice

Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, confirm road conditions before setting out, anticipate adverse weather and power and transportation disruptions, and remember that running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) is enough to knock over an adult - and never drive through flooded streets; floodwater may also contain wastewater and chemical products.
