Members of the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) are holding a protest outside Shastri Bhawan in Delhi as of Friday, February 14, to denounce a recent increase in the liquified petroleum gas (LPG) price and demand that the government rollbacks the measure.
Further protests are likely in the coming days. A heightened security presence and disruptions to transportation are to be expected in the vicinity of all protests. Clashes between protesters and police cannot be ruled out.
The price of the LPG gas was hiked by 144.5 Rs (USD 0.011) per cylinder on February 12, one of the higher increase in five years. On February 13, activists from the Women Congress staged a related protest in front of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas in Delhi.
Individuals in India are advised to monitor developments, avoid all protests and demonstrations as violence may flare up without warning. If a demonstration is organized without warning, individuals are advised to refrain from crossing roadblocks, take shelter in a safe place, and avoid taking pictures. Travelers should adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
