German police and anti-terror units arrested a man at his apartment in Berlin on Wednesday, August 22. Police believe the suspect to be an accomplice of a French national arrested on terror charges in Marseille (France) in 2017. The two are accused of preparing a bomb attack that they intended to carry out in 2016. According to the Federal Prosecutor's office, the arrested man is a Russian national of Chechen origin and is a member of a radical Islamist group. Though a search for explosives was executed in the suspect's apartment, none were found. The suspect is expected to appear in court on August 23.
Due to the underlying terrorist threat, individuals in Germany are advised to report any suspicious objects and behavior to the authorities.
