Angola: Demonstration planned in Luanda January 23

Civil society groups schedule protest in Luanda on January 23; heightened security measures and transportation disruptions expected

Civil society groups have called for a protest outside the National Assembly in Luanda on Thursday, January 23, to denounce the perceived slow pace of approval of the municipal elections legislation scheduled to take place in 2020. The time for the demonstration was not immediately available.

A heightened security presence and localized transportation disruptions are likely.

Individuals in Luanda are advised to monitor developments, avoid all protests and demonstrations, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
