Islamic State claims responsibility for arson attack that destroyed five boats in Mahibadhoo (Southern Ari Atoll) on April 15; further attacks possible over the near term



On Thursday, April 16, the Islamic State (IS) militant group claimed responsibility for the April 15 arson attack in the town of Mahibadhoo (Southern Ari Atoll). The attack, the group's first-ever in the country, destroyed at least five boats that belonged to the Maldivian government, including a sea ambulance and police boat. A police investigation is ongoing as of Thursday.

Further attacks are possible over the near term.
