South Africa: Power outages reported across South Africa December 6-7

South Africa to continue experiencing electricity deficits across the country on December 6-7

The state power utility company Eskom announced that power cuts, which have impacted South Africa on Thursday, December 5, will continue across the country on a rotational basis from 09:00 (local time) on Friday, December 6, until 06:00 on Saturday, December 7. The power cuts are due to heavy rains resulting in wet coal, affecting generating units' performance. According to Eskom, additional power outages are possible over the coming days, notably if heavy rains persist.

Associated transportation, business, and power disruptions are expected throughout Friday. Demonstrations are also possible if power disruptions persist over the near term. .

Individuals in South Africa are advised to monitor the situation, keep battery-operated devices fully charged whenever possible, to be cautious when driving or crossing streets if traffic signals are not functioning.
