Philippines: Army foils terror plot attack in Maguindanao December 3

Army foil terror plot planned in Maguindanao; 14 improvised electronic device (IED) seized

Authorities announced on Tuesday, December 3, that they had foiled a series of planned bomb attacks in Maguindanao, Cotobado, and Sultan Kudarat provinces (Mindanao island). At least 14 Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) and firearms have been seized in several Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) camps in Shariff Saydona Mustapha town (Maguindanao).

A military operation against terrorist groups is ongoing in Maguindanao. Heightened security presence is expected in the area. Clashes between Philippine soldiers and BIFF militants cannot be ruled out.

The Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) is an Islamist militant organization and Moro secessionist group active on Mindanao. The group has been active since 2008, when it split from the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

Individuals in the Philippines are advised to remain vigilant due to the continuing terror threat, adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities, and report any suspicious objects or behavior.
